A CLEAR REASON TO BEGIN

Why try it?

Slow, gentle breathing is a practical way to manage feelings of stress. You do not have to take the deepest breath or reach a particular count.

TAKE YOUR TIME

Let’s give it a try.

  1. 01
Comfortable sitting with the back supported and feet resting on the floor.

    Get comfortable

Sit with your back supported and your feet resting on the floor. Loosen anything that makes breathing feel restricted.

  2. 02
Two phases show gentle air flow in through the nose and out through the mouth.

    Let the breath flow

Breathe in gently through your nose and out through your mouth. Let your breath reach as low as is comfortable, without forcing it.

  3. 03
A relaxed seated person with optional short counting cues for breathing in and out.

    Find an easy rhythm

If it helps, count slowly up to five as you breathe in, and again as you breathe out. Use a shorter count if that feels better. Continue for about five minutes.

Keep it comfortable.

Keep the breath gentle, with no breath-holding. If counting makes you uncomfortable, drop the count. Stop if you feel dizzy or unwell; seek help for unexplained breathing difficulty.
